Business Training and Micro-Finance
Poverty creates fear, sickness, hunger, malnutrition, and hopelessness. It dehumanizes. Africans have for so long been dependent on aid from affluent nations, when there are many resources and great creativity among the peoples themselves. With a little help to begin, many in Africa are able to work for their living thus giving them dignity and changing their economic circumstances. Africa Transformation Initiative, not registered as a Micro-finance institution, is a donor partner of Springs of Africa Micro-Finance Faith Fund (SAMf3) , whereby people are given loans to establish businesses. We find that this gives hope, rekindles faith, revives vision and helps many to refocus their efforts into sustainable, income-generating ventures to support their lives and their families.
In existence since 2007, SAMf3 now has over 150 members. Nearly 25% of applicants received relatively small loans of between US$ 100 - $400 and were able to establish a thriving business!
2011 Goals
In 2011 we aim to start further 20 sustainable businesses through SAMf3 with an average of $500 per business. Thus our fundraising goal for 2011 is $10,000 USD.
Our goal is to disburse more loans, increase our loan pool and multiply the formation of groups. A micro-finance loan helps the poor to provide food for their families, pay school fees, buy clothing and return back the seed money to the revolving fund.
