Famine threatens millions of people in eastern Africa. Especially affected are Somalia, Northern Kenya (Samburu, Turkana and Borana) and other parts of the region.
Many are hungry and have fled to refugee camps. Many of our friends are experiencing a vast escalation in the cost of basic foods. This has particularly affected the 12 schools which DOVE churches operate in Kenya, as they find it increasingly difficult to provide nutritious meals for their students amid large cost increases.
How should you help?
Christians with a heart of compassion have donated money and food staples of maize flour, beans and cooking oil to distribute to about 3,000 people in East Africa. Each of the 250 households received a minimum of 6 kg of maize flour and 2 kg of beans.
A Somali community is experiencing famine due a severe drought where livestock couldn’t survive. Another community faces starvation because the lack of proper roads makes transportation of food a challenge so the government opts to minister elsewhere. In a third community, the farmers cannot sustain their families due to poor farming methods so they depend on food relief.
Isaiah 58:7 says “Share your food with everyone who is hungry” and verse 10 says nearly the same, “Give your food to the hungry.” Donations were received from Africa Transformation Initiative, Springs of Africa, and DOVE Africa, which are associated with DOVE Mission International.
